Workshop for Composers,
featuring THE KRONOS QUARTET!

This is a rare opportunity to study one-on-one with Bettina Essaka
and Stefan Poetzsch.

Bettina and Stefan will serve on the faculty of the California State University
Summer Arts' "Composer-Performer Collaboration: A Workshop for Composers"
June 29 - July 9, 2011 on the campus of CSU-Fresno, in Fresno, California.

On the July 3, Bettina Essaka will present her current production
"Cicadas Whispering" with composer/musician Stefan Poetzsch
demonstrating ways connecting movement and sound in
contemporary performance.

Essaka und Poetzsch bringen mit ihrer aktuellen Produktion
„Zikandengeflüster“ zeitlose, abstrakte, konkrete und exotisch anmutende,
visuell – sprachliche und akustische Momente in einen ästhetischen
Zusammenhang.
Eine zeitgenössische - afrikanische Tanzproduktion mit Klängen, einem
barocken Ausflug und Originalkompositionen, welche die Möglichkeiten
der uralten und unerschöpflichen Verbindung zwischen Tanz und Musik aufzeigt.

  „The Star“ aus Johannesburg beschreibt eine Aufführung des Stücks
„Without A Doubt“ von Essaka/Poetzsch als „A theatrical theorem of
movement and music“ in welchem „Essaka explores precision without being
mechanical, stylised without being clinical.“ „The choreographer turns composer,
the composer becoms choreographer.“
